On Saturday, March 8, 2025
I performed at Action Research #244 along with 15 other Electronic, Experimental, and Noise performers from South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Andrew Chadwick's project, Ironing. Since 2005 Andrew has performed as Ironing in hundreds of performances all over the USA, and even in Europe.
In 2007 Andrew and I started Action Research together, with guidance from Christopher Miller of Electronic SubSouth. AR eventually developed into Andrew's project, and since then he has curated live music events in Gainesville (and other places in Florida) showcasing dozens of touring performers, and local Gainesville artists.

Hal prepares for Action Research #244

At AR244 I played my new Stylophone CPM DS-2 Analog Drone Synthesizer! I love this synth because it has everything I need in one compact box, including Delay and Reverb. It operates with eight AA batteries and I can easily fit the synth into my backpack for ease of travel.

I have been making my own homemade experimental music since 1981.

I was an active participant in the 1980s Cassette Culture scene, and I operated the Cause And Effect Cassette Distribution Service and label, and recorded solo as Dog As Master, and in a duo as Viscera.

I published six issues of the original Electronic Cottage print magazine, 1989-91.

In the last 44 years I have recorded, produced and released more than 300 solo audio works, collaborations and compilations.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ANDREW "IRONING" CHADWICK for sharing 20 years of his talents with the world! I am proud to have been in on the early days of this creative odyssey, improvising live with Andrew and Mr. McGee in both 2006 and 2008.

And thanks to Hal for all his many efforts with Action Research and for documenting this particular event.
