Greetings all !

My name is Jerry Kranitz. For 18 years I published Aural Innovations: The Global Source for Space Rock Exploration, which from 1998-2000 was a printed zine (9 issues) and from 2000-2016 was a continually publishing web site and series of online radio shows. Though no longer active, the web site still houses the entire 18 years of reviews, articles and interviews.

I am also the author Cassette Culture: Homemade Music and the Creative Spirit in the Pre-Internet Age, scheduled to be published by Vinyl-on-Demand in January 2019. The book is a social history and analysis of the cassette culture network, focusing on it's place in both post-punk and independent arts histories.

Jerry, it is great that you are here! Electronic Cottage is going to be a lot of fun. It is like the Wild Wild West because it is wide open. It will become what we will make it. When you are ready to make your first posts, contact me by email and I will construct your entries for you. All you will need to do is supply the raw materials, words and images.

Hello!

Lord Litter here. In 1986 I discovered something called *cassette scene*. I had no idea what it was all about but I had struggled with all kind music business structures before which always had led me to the edge of frustration - suddenly I realised everything is possible in *cassette scene* land.

So in the end I really did everything: music, distribution, label, radioshows, news, article writing .. whatever came along I did it.

In the late 90s it all slowed down for me. One main reason was I was very much involved in a live band (Litter & The Lazy Sleepers) and we did not record much. The second and probably more important aspect is difficult to define. It was the general change of planet earth's culture based on digitalisation.

At the moment I'm not *appearing* at live events. The last regular thing I did, I hosted a live show series also playing own songs up to 2011. My last solo release was *Lights Out, 2016*.

I always kept on producing radioshows - 3 slightly different ones today for 3 different stations. When I started I presented everything that came to me via cassette culture connections. The focus was DIY, communication, cooperation, exchange, doing something *different* .. whatever the musical output was. From soft Folk to harsh Noise.

Everyone of those creations was special if compared to the general musicscene. For various reasons all had a certain *quality* - that was the selection I learned to present.

With the years I think all this extremely softened - became a new mass culture - in a way became mainstream (This is definitely worth a closer look. Because I never wanted to support mainstream, though I play music at my shows that sounds like mainstream to others) So, today I no longer present anything that comes my way. There were several waves where I almost drowned in the "Hey - we're indie please play our song" avalanche.

I will try to define how I select and how I present these days on my EC page. It is based on a 30 year development. It was important to keep the fun and sense of my work.

Hello Everybody!
I’m Ditlev, but i also answer to Lasse. For the longest time i thought all the music in the world was what was available at a store called Kvickly in the next town from where i grew up. Kvickly wasnt a music store just a supermarket, and for that reason i thought i just was’nt interested in music. Wich was’nt the case, i just was not happy woth the music provided. Then later i discovered a venue in Elsinore ( Hamlet’s city) wich was in a former powerstation, and they put on noise and punk rock shows. From there i discovered there were people into those things all over the world , and so i got into corresponding with them over the mail.
I also run the tiny independent lable Stilletid, wich releases mostæy on cassette and once in a while a vinyl LP or a cd-r
I mostly write something as oldfashioned as songs, and do an occational soundscape audio-wise, but my page on here won’t be much about my own work. Rather it will be mostly about what is going on around me in Denmark. A report from the danish underground if you will. But that does’nt exclude people from elsewhere, who are on tour or what have you.
Looking forward to reading your page aswell!
Best Wishes from Græsted, Denmark
Ditlev

Hello fellow tape nuts and music collectors!! My name is Jeff Central aka/ Jeff Chenault. It's been my name since I started home recording in 1983. I've always been attracted to strange and unusual sounds. My dad was a DJ from the day I was born so I was exposed to all kinds of music from a very early age. Records fascinated me!! I've been collecting them my entire life. Once I discovered electronic music I never looked back. I wrote for Dana Countryman's Cool and Strange Music Magazine from 1996 to 2002 and then wrote for Tiki Magazine from app. 2003-2010. Now I hope to join you folks on resurrecting Electronic Cottage in digital form!! This'll be FUN!! Thanks Hal!!!

Hola!
I am Rafael González. I released my first cassette of experimental electronic music in 1986, at the age of 16, Exenple by Brigada Nadie, a duo with my 13-year-old brother.
I was a member of the futurist multidisciplinary group Equipo Estético Étika Makinal (or 3EM), and Spanish experimental noise band I.Q.C.M.
I have created numerous collaborative works as well as solo recordings.
In recent years I have turned my attention more toward visual and mail art.

Hi all, let me start by saying that this is a great idea Hal and thanks for getting me involved! Now, I can read and find out about artists that I otherwise may never discover. I am looking forward to read about all of you!
I'll keep my intro short... At the age of 12, when everybody in my school was listening to A-Ha, Wham, Billy Ocean, ... I got into Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Doors, ... from there I got introduced to The Residents and Negativland... got into tape-trading and so on...
Unlike most of you, I own close to 0 physical releases at the moment(not collecting anything anymore), I sold all my stuff(twice) to travel the world and that got me to Indonesia, where I am living for about 7 years now. Almost 3 years ago, I started making my own music again, and a year ago I picked up painting once more... so you see, I am a newbie.
That's it, for now... I told you I would keep it short.

Nice to see familiar artists & new artists here! I. am glad to see Electronic Cottage back as I used to contribute to the print version. That said I used to run Harsh Reality Music started the label in 1982 releasing my own music in various groups. They were Mental Anguish, Pungent Odor who became The Skoptzies, Misfeasance, Macroglossia, RSVP which became Cancerous Growth, Viktimized Karcass, Planet Zero. Anyway I started releasing tapes by artists that I liked.Over 350 tapes, some vinyl, Cds, Cdrs, And videos on Vhs.Also did distribution of some lps. Did some writing for mags, some mail art, I did a lot of compilations as well. Helped run Tapegerm with Bryan Baker, Scott Carr & J Mundok, for 10 yrs or more a collaborative site to intense to explain here. Had my own domain for HRM, shut down the label due to several reasons around 2006 if memory serves. You can see some of the releases on Hals site the HEM section. Quit Tapegerm around 2010. Took a 5 yr hiatus due to personal reasons but came out of it & did Mental Anguish - Frozen Lake & a few Phinney McGee microcassette releases. I have collaborated extensively with Hal McGee, Carl Howard - Nomuzic, Mike Jackson, plus others Prescott, jeff Central, Charlie Goff, John Hudak, Minoy, Alien Planetscapes plus many others I may have forgotten. I look forward to contributing!

Chris! Thank you for introducing yourself to the new EC Community! I am very happy that you will participate in the new EC. It would not and could not be the same without you! The new EC site is going to be a slow, gradual build, very organic. We are going to try to create here an online environment that will feel good, that will be ours (all ours!). It'll be an online community that we will want to be a part of it, and that won't make us feel like we are dealing with toxic goo and radioactive slime! When you get ready to create your artist page here on EC and start making your first posts, contact me by email and I will help you get it all set up, every step of the way. All you will need to do is provide the raw materials - words and high res images - and I will do the rest. That's my job here!

Molly, yes you supplied a lot of morale boost on our releases & as Hal has stated vocals on one of our releases. For those who don't know Molly was very supportive of Viktimized Karcass & you can find some vocals by her on a few of those releases. On a compilation Body Sounds released on Harsh Reality in which all tracks were sounds of the body no instrumentation are or fx Molly recorded a track artist name M.A.P. It was so good a guy I forget who from Belgium wrote me wanting to release a tape by M.A.P. You can find & listen to this compilation on You Tube of interested. I have no idea who the person is who posted it there. A search of the net the tape pops up other places. Even a download someone out up.

Hi everyone! I'm Jen Sandwich. I live in an arts village in Bradenton, FL with a cat named Lightning Butt. I am a writer, photographer, painter, illustrator, and zine maker. I have been making zines since 1987 and have been doing an autobiographical comic series called Total Trash since 2013. From 2005 to 2008 I was on a mission to go to as many noise and experimental shows as possible and photograph all of them. Then I got out of doing that for a number of reasons; circumstances in my life changed, I moved around a lot, I no longer had a reliable vehicle, etc. but this year I am determined to go back to attending and photographing every show I can. A decade ago I used only film and vintage cameras, but film is too costly for me now, so I have gone digital. I'm looking forward to sharing photos and other various things with you all!

Hi all. Thanks for this site Hall, it looks great. I've been working with analog synths since the mid-1970's. Mainly on the electronics side until 1981 when I purchased my ARP 2600. I worked on recording and mastering the intricacies of the 2600 until my first cassette release in 1990. Since 1981, I have also acquired and ARP Odyssey, Axxe and Sequencer. a PAiA Stringz and Thingz, several rack effects, stompboxes and home made synth modules. I started recording using two cassette decks, then a reel to reel with sound on sound, a 4 track cassette and now to my Win XP computer. I occasionally use my micro-cassette (when Hal motivates me). I have an old DOS/Win 98 P3 computer with some early synth programs that I started messing around with in the late 1990's (and a couple of Atari computers that I haven't done anything with yet). Around 2002 - 2003 I moved into working with computer based compositions, with either stand alone programs, VST's or (the great tracker) Buzz. I have been sidelined with several illnesses for the past eight months and while it has been frustrating, it has given me much time to reflect on what I want to do next, which is to integrate my computers and analog synths into my next studio iteration. Both types of hardware need repairs/rebuilds so it's going to take some time, but hopefully not too much. If you are interested in my music, please go to my website. The majority has been posted to the archive.org site and I have provided links on my website. Even though there many more details to mention, that's about all for this post

Hello E.C. fam! Excited to be a part of this 'zine. I met Hal McGee early in 2007 at a screening/live score of his "The Secret Life of Hal McGee" film in Gainesville, FL. A Tampa area noise artist named Microwave Windows whom I'd recently met invited me to the event. Paramutual Operator, Andrew Chadwick, and Aaron Zarzutski were part of the live film score. I had just spent my first night in jail shortly after a recording session with Oubliette and Noche Rider (Jeff Zagers) in the Murray Hill Theater in Jacksonville, Florida and Hal's film with the live sound makers really had a positive impact on me. The next day, Hal, Paramutual Operator, Microwave Windows, and myself set up an arsenal of analog synthesizers and recorded an album called "Stoned Space Jams". Within days, that same crew and my good friend Christoper Page (Cellular Terror, Acid Majik) did more analog synth / Theremin recordings at my house in Jacksonville, FL resulting in "Center of The Universe" & "Invisible In-Betweeners". Hal and I became good friends and started to collaborate in live performances, micro-cassette recordings, museum appearances, albums, and occasional lunches.

Hello everyone,

My new project is called SPIRIT but in the 80s, until the early 90s I was the singer/guitarist of a local Seynois group(since I'm in the var*) 'NO ANSWER'. We have done some gigs and participated in a compilation and I worked with painters and visual artists under the name of 'TOHU-BOHU' until 2002. After that, nothing anymore, but now, I'm back and I would like to work again with other artists. Also for cinema.
I'm not against the scene but it remains to be defined.

*No idea what is var.
