As many of you know I have hosted the radio program, "No Pigeonholes" since 1985. This show has been dedicated to underground, independent and home recording artists during this time.
In December though I will be retiring my "regular" No Pigeonholes show and beginning a new phase of documentation and archiving.
One goal is to post my own music, my wife Robin O'Brien's, and many of the artists on my Lonely Whistle label. The main goal will be archiving as many of my radios shows as possible. This material will be posted to Archive.org as hi res mp3s .
In addition, I will be continuing the experimental spin off of this show called "No Pigeonholes EXP" on KOWS Radio ( www.kowsfm.com). That show currently airs on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Thursday nights from 6-8PM Pacific Time. This show is more about "sounds" and not "songs" and features many styles of experimental music.

All of the archiving and historical information will be available through links at my main web site, www.doncampau.com

... well what can I say ...

Don was the first one to play my music in the USA in the 80s ... what a moment in my life!! His show brought zillions of underground musicians my way ... via tapes of the shows he always included in his packages. I played them like crazy at home (it was my *ear* into the worldwide underground), also played excerpts at my on air radioshow in Berlin at Radio 100. (http://radio100.de/ for those who can read german)

Of course it's kinda sad that the legendary no pigeonholes show comes to an end - by the way, it also existed in Europe via Radio Marabu for more that 20 years - but I think his step is a logic one!

This way the heritage of the underground is not lost. The longer I think about his decision the more I think it's a perfect one. The sound of those important years has to be *saved*

In any way I recommend very much to check out the forthcomming legendary no pigeonholes shows of the early years to understand how different the underground was in those days. Today I often have the impression to hear a better recorded version of sounds I already know - not that I don't like this (brilliant new versions of psychedelic garage music can be thrilling) but the early years more or less only brought invention!

Perhaps this is the push I need .. I often take a look at the HUGE archive of recorded Lord Litter shows..

    Don Campau

My name is Don Campau and I have been involved in underground and non mainstream music and radio since 1969. I continue to be an active home taper and Cassette Culture archivist with my own site, The Living Archive.

    Links to know me better:

(my music catalog  and radio listings)

I have no interest in the music business. I believe in giving my music away for free (although people can trade or buy if they want) and I handmake every single CD I send out. I am interested in human relationships and the community of independent and underground musicians and artists. I like contact and will play your music on the radio.
