Second Spazzity

Inspired by the interview with Lord Litter by Adam Naworal and learning of his love of films and film soundtrack I wanted to share this link to a video shot in Berlin in 1983 called Second Spazzity.

I had been holding on to a U-Matic tape that I thought was a copy of the video for decades. I had tried to get it digitized several times but it was either way to expensive or I was told there was nothing on it. I gave it as a gift to my friend who shot it this past summer and was surprised to find out that I was holding onto the only existing copy. Guido Englich was able to digitize it and post it on Vimeo. I have a small part in the film and you can hear my music on the soundtrack too. It was entertaining for me to see it since I only had vague memories of the production since it was so long ago, but I'm hoping it will be entertaining to some of the EC crowd. I'm hoping since it was shot in Lord Litter's backyard, that he will enjoy it especially.

I have been making my own homemade experimental music since 1981.

I was an active participant in the 1980s Cassette Culture scene, and I operated Generations Unlimited with David Prescott and Conrad Schnitzler, and recorded solo as Gen Ken & Equipment, and in a duo with KMZ and Vision of Control.

From 1989 to 1992 I ran Generator, a gallery, music shop, performance space and hangout for fringe culture and lovers of sound, noise and music and in 1994 I started A.T.M.O.T.W. (Art is Throwing Money Out The Window) which has kept me busy and smiling ever since.

In the last 36 or so years I have recorded, produced and released and not released too many recordings for me to keep track of, and I’ve performed with too many people to list here (really I’m just too lazy to try to remember them all).

I also love lamination. I perform Lamination Rituals as Egnekn, The Minister of Lamination in the Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland.

I’m a fan of haphazard collage and I design covers for LPs, CDs, Cassettes and 8-Tracks using Instant Art and Instant Covers technology. I also love postcards and have been sending them to friends for as long as I can remember using We Clip technology. I have been working on a website called Everybody Loves Postcards since 2009 and expect to have it functional one day soon.

I am greatly indebted to the pioneer of home-taping—Conrad Schnitzler, who I met by exchanging music through the post, and have been lovingly dedicated to organizing events celebrating his life and work under the name
CON-Mythology
since his passing in 2011.

Ha - yeah .. a classic art-house flavoured video experimental excursion!..and especially well done the soundwork, which creates some real *atmo*!

*Backyard* I guess you mean the scenes shot at the car park which seems the one round the corner and is still existing, though there were many discussions to tear the whole area down.

1983 .. ca. 5 more years 'till we met in person .. which I think was 1987/88..

Wow. Phil had a real steady hand on that camera. Nice stock footage edits. Very stylish actors. And a WAOW of a soundtrack job. Bravo! Bravo!

Ken, thanks for posting and sharing! To complete the story: the acronym G.E. in the credits stands for Guido Englich, who directed, wrote and produced the film in 1983 ... and was afraid the last 40 years that the film is lost. happy that it's not ;-)
