Rafael González brought to your EC Editor's attention this odd historical item.
In the Spanish Civil War the republican forces fighting General Franco's Nationalist army used specially-designed Modern-art-inspired prison cells to torture Fascist prisoners. An article at OPEN CULTURE tells us that "evidence also indicates that, elsewhere in Spain, Nationalist prisoners were forced to watch Salvador Dalí and Luis Buñuel's film Un Chien Andalou," especially an endless loop of its "graphic sequence of an eyeball being cut open".

I LOVE Luis Buñuel! Of course this film is his Dada statement. I just watched his Belle de Jour (again) the other day! As for Dali, anybody on this site know Justynn Tyme? Every year he does a Dali Krab event at the beginning of April -- very very Dada. Some interesting stuff on display right now:

Forcing prisoners to watch a loop of the infamous eyeball-slicing scene in Un Chien Andalou reminds me of the scene in A Clockwork Orange where Alex was forced to watch endless films of violence, death and destruction.
