bio: Penelope Rebecca born Shreveport, Louisiana presently living in Saint Petersburg, Florida
When i think on doing a bio i want to grab my favorite color crayon and simply draw .. Hi am Penny!!!
People ask me when did I start all of this, hmm. Since i was in elementary school. I LOVE art. I love sound. I love being a pain in the tuckus.. naw, i just a fun southern gal..please pass the sweet tea..lol..
growing up.. i would have to admit i am no longer a kid.. nope.. in my growing up years, i was always making stuff, combining sounds together on tapes, CDs, VHS film, recording element in those cards u send people with personal messages, when i lived in my folks’ house, on Thursdays, and Sundays i was given the option to sit with them in their church or go sit behind the soundboard and learn. i choose the soundboard. i learned sound engineering, designing light shows, building sets and props for church productions..who knew it would to this... i love placing sounds together, building soundscapes, just like i love doing collage works and from time to time doing mail art. i never knew there was a worldwide tribe of people doing what i found out to be called noise. i enjoyed bands like Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, David Byrne, Bowie etc.. but i did not know there were people all around me doing what i am a part of.
bio stuff.. what do u do? sound collages, soundscapes, percussion composition, tape collages, field recordings. presently i am searching for a cacti.. i want to play john cage's composition child of tree. lately i have been also focusing on experimental/ modern percussion. when i was a young'n i remember hearing and seeing this around me.. ,maybe it is like an astronomer when she is a child living under a canopy of stars.. she sees the wonder and as she grows and evolves through stages of womanhood and her studies she already heard call and now has to see what they are made of and how do they sound.
