Now Wide-Open In The Magnetic Bungalow - Usui's "Lasered Eye"

November's Magnetic Bungalow features a classic of Japanese experimental home recording.
Aioi Usui's 1993 cassette album "Lasered Eye" is full of ideas both unique to Japan and universal. The recordings showcase Usui's thoughtful personality as well as his unusual approaches to song writing.

This tape came with a nice little photocopied booklet that includes lyrics and/or descriptions for all of its songs -- written in both Japanese and English. It also came with a fancy transparent envelope that contained some unusual color photographs.

Usui described this to me as "the pick with which I make all the noise."
Tune into this program on Saturday, November 17, 2018, 12:00 AM USA Pacific Standard Time on KOWS, 92.5 FM (that's Friday at Midnight), here:

Merci Swamy Loopi !

Another interesting artist I was unfamiliar with, and another great radio show. Your ear pockets are deep.

Thanks for tuning en, Ken! Appreciate your positive reinforcement. Usui wrote me today, including a greeting -- "Say hi to Gen Ken." Maybe you should write him directly (which I could help facilitate if you like).

Hello Swami,

That was a very Jazzy Magnetic Bungalow-episode, loved it!

I wonder, the artist who appear on MB-shoes, they are aware of Electronic Cottage?

Glad you dug the show, Frank, thanks for listening. Usui also wrote me, "Say hi to Frank." Let me know if you wanna get in touch directly.

Regards the artists who have so far been invited into my Bungalow -- at least 5 of 7 are "aware," because I interviewed them directly. I hope the others are too, or at least will become aware one day (since the archive.org posts can be very long-lived).

ahhh.. my good friend Aioi "Usui" Tadashi AKA Watanabe Chiaki!!!

The ONLY one who ever did a Lord Litter cover version - the song was *I never been to Paris* which he recorded with his girl trio *The Picnic* on a CD ...

I just LOVE his music .. it's so very unqiue ..and so very japanese .. which I also love .. for example: the only new movies I watch with excitement are all from Japan ..

and there is this book now published in Japan exploring the ex GDR underground scene presenting das Freie Freie Orchester ...

ahhh ... Japan underground!!!

Of course, as I mention in the broadcast, 'twas YOU who brought Usui and I together. My eternal thanks, Your Lordship -- for this introduction and for so many more as well...

I'm listening right now! In the Internet Age, when we have access to recordings of music from all times, music that was once old is now new again, is now current!
