Nice to hear you talk about this, too bad for ... "the deal was, there wasn't no deal"

Good point! And thanks. Sometimes my friends and I have talked about a sort of "artist's support network". It would be a bit like AA-- "Hello, my name is Thomas, and I am addicted to making music for no money." "We love you, Thomas."

Oh yeah, and in the end we hold each other's hand and say a little prayer! I'm in... can we go for a beer afterwards?

Of course-- a beer is necessary to close the meetings out.

That's an honest assessment, for sure. Like so many of "us", I have tried to generate income over the years from those "talents" that are uniquely mine, in music, visual art and writing. The best I ever did was about $2000 in a year...hardly enough to rent a tepee on National Forest land. But--we keep at it--for the reasons you articulate. I have long had a peripheral interest in droney music stuff--I keep thinking the yoga music could be a damn sight more interesting...I feel like Hal's cottage could be a means of injecting a lot of new sound into the Walls Of Genius catalog, so consider the idea of collaboration. Hal can attest that I might not always operate in a rush, but I usually get around to all the things I promise. Not making any promises here, just reflecting on promising things!
