Audio / Visual Artists That Inspire Me

I noticed that some of the folks here on Electronic Cottage are visual artists as well.  I also noticed some of the art was a means of diagraming a plan for performance sets or companion art to go with the audio. I see so much inspiring stuff here. Being a creative individual drawing, collaging, painting and photography have been outlets for my self-expression as well.

I have a few Musicians / Visual Artists that have inspired me over the years and what they do. In no particular order. I invite you to check them out and be inspired as well. I also encourage you to share with us what Art inspires your Music/Noise.

Kim Gordon - bass, vocals, guitar for Sonic Youth. Her series of watercolor “noise paintings” depicting her blurred vision of the audience from the stage and depicting the names of experimental and noise groups are very interesting to me. She also works with such mediums as stenciling & sculpting as well.

Exene Cervenka - known as the singer of the punk rock band X. Her Visual Art mediums include Journals and mixed media collages.

Joni Mitchell - Singer & Songwriter and painter. I love her portraits, abstracts, and paintings where she writes on it and it looks like a Collage.

Here is a list of Art books by Musicians Adam & I have in our collection:

Rat Catching, Oak Mot, Round My House, Concrete Inspection by Crispin Hellion Glover

The Primal Screamer - Nick Blinko of Rudimentary Peni

America the Beautiful - Exene Cervenka

Finally here are some more of my own works of Visual Art. I look forward to seeing and hearing more of your Art.

Aimee,
Really great to see your artwork and the work of your inspirations. I always enjoy looking at JonI Mitchell’s artwork but hadn’t had the chance to Kim Gordon’s or Exene Cervenka’s work. Cool stuff— thanks for sharing!

Great work Aimee! Always nice too see other EC members work.
And, as Leslie, I also didn't know of Kim Gordon's work.
(I saw, you wanted to link something behind your name. The trick is to not use 'http', before the link)

I love it! I was just reading the Kim Gordon book and it is amazing how much of a visual artist she is in addition to music/conceptual stuff. I really enjoy your art.

Aimee, thanks for sharing your engaging visuals. Your own art obviously comes from a lot of different directions, and it's clear you are inspired by a variety of stylists. It seems to me that most people who make recordings for the public must have some visual artistic talents too -- after all, album cover art is often a big part of what gets people interested in audio art. I've been lucky enough to have worked with many recording artists who are also talented visual artists. Also I'm lucky to have worked with visual artists who don't do audio, but who like working with audio artists.

You asked for people to share art that inspires. In my case, several of those artists post here at the EC -- but beyond those, here's a few of the many...
