I received this pair of limited one-of-a-kind mail art postcards from Ed (aka Sluggisha Tapes, aka "the reason I discovered Florida's noise scene in the first place") in August of last year. There was no return address or insignia on either of them, so for a few weeks it remained a mystery as to who had sent them. (I found out when Ed asked if I had gotten them yet)
The postcards are photographs of statues of Mr. Peanut and Popeye at a used car place in Inverness, FL. There may be more characters there, and if there are. I hope Ed returns and does another series of postcards about them! I have a bunch of other postcards from Ed (all one-of-a-kind), but I'll have to search for them again in the meantime...

Modern mythological statuary... Could the owner of this automobile lot be from southern California? I am imagining a miniature golf course on site --- Plasterized Manny, Moe, and Jacks shepherding putts through twisted exhaust pipes into backseat ash trays...

cool statues! I have a childhood memory of Florida where we visited "The Upside Down House"--it was a real estate promotion. The entire house WAS upside down and you got to walk through it on the ceiling. There's certainly a unique vibe to Florida, no matter how horrified I am by it. (nothing personal, guys--I spent a lot of childhood time in the "old" Florida and I'm just horrified by urban sprawl anywhere. We've got it here in Colorado, too--we're just a little behind the curve on it.)

Are you referring to WonderWorks, which was an upside down building with lots of interactive sciencey stuff inside? It used to be in Orlando, and I saw billboards for it on my recent drives to Panamanian City.

These are hilarious and kind of remind me of the statues at South of the Border in Hamer, SC
