Thanks, much appreciated! What part of Indonesia are you in?

I'm in Batam, a small industrial island, right under Singapore(my escape-to country for when I get fed up with Indonesia)
It's a shithole, but it's home.

Well, I know Jakarta and Yogyakarta have punk and noise scenes and a small amount of more improvised and experimental music. There's a pretty good documentary called "Bising: Noise & Experimental Music in Indonesia" which I've seen. Good interview with the filmmakers here - https://noisey.vice.com/en_us/article/rze3k9/indonesias-insane-noise-scene. I don't know about Batam but Singapore definitely has stuff going on. Here's an academic paper on Experimental Music in Singapore by a musician and event organizer (I skimmed it and recognize some names) - https://www.researchcatalogue.net/view/284072/284073

Batam has Punk & Hardcore and that's kinda all they have or maybe I am missing it. If I look at the Batam Bandcamp-page, I have a negative/angry impression.

I've seen some nice musicians over here, but most of the time it's not my cup of tea or they play to please the tourists(ruined certain classics for me and I don't want to frequent the places where they play them anymore)

There's lots of great musicians/music in Indonesia, even the more experimental stuff, maybe I just don't look for it hard enough here in Batam.

I know, there's a nice scene in Singapore(50 minutes ferry), but it's also a very expensive country for a poor white guy, making his living in Indonesia.

(On a side note about Yogya... since 2 months, there is a complete alcohol ban, idiots)

Thanks for the links, I will definitely check them out.
