A few days ago, my friend Alex Carretero (Insane Muzak, editor of the compilation Golpea tu cerebro) sent me files of a rare cassette by my project EL HABITANTE ("The Inhabitant"), called "Enfermedad Venérea" ("Venereal Disease"). I knew the existence of this cassette, of course, but I did not remember its sound at all. Listening to these sounds has been a pleasant surprise, not because I consider them to be great, but because memories of those recordings have been revived. It is lo-fi industrial noise. How could I have believed that I was a great and unique artist, making these terrible live recordings using a Teisco 60F synthesizer, a Casio, manipulation of cassettes and voice?! All recorded almost live on a cassette recorder (I remember Sanyo brand) that by that time was old and in poor condition. I could not specify the date of the cassette edition, but I remember starting to record the sounds in the summer of 1985. Listening to the sounds I can still feel that adolescent anguish. |
