An M&E Tribute To The Great Tape Labels The Various Artists Who Ran Them It was 30 years ago today ...  Listening to this virtual cassette proved to me again how visionary, exciting and still friendly this music was. There was no goal, no rules - just be yourself, be unique. I did radio shows in those days - I still do radio shows. I have to admit I don't receive this kind of music any more. Today I often get music I was missing in those days. This is kinda difficult to explain. In those days I often experienced too much destruction just for the fun of destruction. I was sometimes looking for clever worked-out song structures .. and sometimes found them.  By the way, lots of this kind of information I find regularly on Darrel Draeger's cassette culture blog. http://1980scassetteculture.blogspot.com/  Today I often get too much of what I already had heard before many times. And I very seldom get the sheer excitement. It's often mellow, good, *radio-friendly* music, ready for the (a) market - or it's boring, clumsy *just* noise *experiments*. But then there also are bands that play simple plain Rock 'n' Roll and are totally excited to be on my show - they just want their Rock 'n' Roll to be heard - no desire to *make it*. You hear these kind of bands quite often on my shows. And I also sure get new interesting and challenging sound explorations, often on the mellow side, which adds a positive vibe in my opinion because we have way too much noise all around these days.  This virtual cassette compilation compiled by Mick Magic today, presents very well the general sound you got from his distribution in those years. I remember quite well some of these tracks, had many on my shows.
